“For many years, I have been interested in the rights of young people...and have worked to create communication and dialogue between young people and adults.” -- Kattis Ahlstrom

Profile

Stockholm, September1998, Kattis Ahlstrom was introduced to the public as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador by Swedish Riksförbundet för sexuell upplysning (RFSU).

Kattis Ahlstrom is a popular and highly regarded Swedish journalist and radio and television host and producer. Much of Kattis' media work is focused on women and children. She believes that her position as UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador is a natural extention of her involvement with the Board of the Children's Rights Society. Kattis' media skills are critical, as Kattis says, "to helping Swedish people realize that they can make a difference for young women at risk by supporting development aid for reproductive health programs.”

Activities

February 2003. In order to broaden the network of Parliamentary Members in the Swedish all-party group working on sexual and reproductive health, RFSU and Kattis Ahlstrom conducted a field trip for Swedish parliamentarians to India. Ms. Ahlstrom took along a videographer to begin production of a documentary about the work carried out there by RSFU with the Indian-based non-governmental organization (NGO), MAMTA.

June 2002. Kattis Ahlstrom and three other Nordic UNFPA Goodwill Ambassadors met in Managua with Nicaraguan governmental officials and NGOs to determine the role UNFPA Goodwill Ambassadors could play in mobilizing resources for the youth of that country.

November 1998. Ms. Ahlstrom went on her first field visit as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador. In Zambia, Ms. Ahlstrom filmed a TV documentary for UNFPA comparing the lives of Swedish and Zambian teenage girls. The 30-minute documentary, called “Jane”, was aired on Swedish TV in January 2001.
