Face to Face Testimonies at UN LDC Conference
Face to Face International organized the fourth in a series of Face to Face Testimonies, this time for the United Nations Least Developed Countries (LDC) Conference held in Brussels. Two United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Goodwill Ambassadors and Face to Face Campaign Spokespersons gave personal accounts of the impact of HIV/AIDS on the people and economy of Botswana. Botswana once was one of the least developed countries and now, largely because of AIDS, is in danger of getting back on the LDC list.
Popular TV presenter, Goedele Liekens took 5 Belgian teens and a film crew to Botswana to report to LDC Conference delegates and observers on the AIDS devastation.
Miss Universe 1999, Mpule Kwelagobe of Botswana called on LDC Conference delegates to move from rheotic to results. Her testimony brought to life the technical analysis and shocking statistics. Mpule spoke passionately about friends dying of AIDS and what she is doing in her home country and abroad to make a difference.
The Face to Face Testimonies were part of a day-long special session entitled "HIV/AIDS Impact on the Development of the Least Developed Countries." The session was organized by Alphonse MacDonald, Abubakar Dungus, Victoria Rector and Stafford Mousky of UNPFA and Vicky Claeys and her team at the International Planned Parenthood Federation European Network (IPPFEN).
