Women of the World, Face to Face
Federacion de Planificacion Familiar de Espana (FPFE) sponsored an international photography contest and exhibition, "Women of the World, Face to Face." Some 260 photographs from amateur and professional photographers around the world were submitted to the contest. For the exhibition, a jury selected 79 photos from 21 photographers showing images from countries as diverse as Burkina Faso, South Africa, Peru, India and Siberia.
The exhibit is divided into six sections with distinct themes: women's human rights; economic resources; sexual education; healthcare services; right of choice; and adolescent need. FPFE believes that this exhibition and its visual images are powerful, effective tools for conveying messages about the reality of women's lives in the developing world.
The exhibit premiered at the Museo de la Ciudad in Madrid. Over the two-month showing, thousands of people viewed the exhibition. The exhibit was publicized on radio talk shows, the Internet, and covered by TV broadcasters, and will travel to major cities in Spain over the next year.
TV personality Xavier Sarda hosted the opening of the exhibit in Madrid.
Photos from the exhibition are featured on the left hand side of most Face to Face Web site pages.
