Bertrand Piccard Switzerland
Dr. Bertrand Piccard is a scientist, adventurer, psychiatrist and aeronaut, who completed the first round-the-world balloon trip in March 1999. Shortly after his historic balloon flight, Dr. Piccard created the Winds of Hope Foundation to fight against forgotten or neglected causes throughout the world, especially those affecting children and, in particular, a disease called Noma. Noma is a form of gangrene which develops in the mouth and quickly spreads to other parts of the face. At the same time it destroys both the soft and hard tissue of the mouth and face. Its victims are almost always children, especially the youngest, between 2 and 6 years old.
